Abstract

In this paper we propose to show that the word natural resource, like any ideological product, refracts and reflects a reality that lies beyond its materiality. The histórical process of generalization of instrumental rationality implied a radical change in the relations between society and nature. The nature of having value in itself, became a mere means to serve the economic production and wealth generation. The language (arena of class struggle) did not come out unscathed from this process. On the contrary, the words refract and reflect this change in social reality. The natural heritage, the nature itself became a more productive factor, it became natural resources. Likewise, the resistance to power and the instrumentalization of nature contained in the words natural resource, is reflected and refracted by the words commons wells, in a context of social struggles for the appropriation, management and use of nature.
