The aim of this paper is to analyse the family organization in Cape Verde, an african archipelago located in front of the coasts of Guinea, Mauritania and Senegal. We state that the african and mediterranean traditions are actually present in the family organization and in the relationships that shape it. The analytical model of Klaas Woortmann and the concept of habitus from Pierre Bourdieu's theory, will allow us to better understand the varying representations and practices of family life in Cape Verde.
